Visit to THE MANSION AT TATTON PARK and GARDENS.
I have chosen this visit to Cheshire as the special exhibition this summer is
BEYOND THE VIEW: CANALETTO AT TATTON PARK.
This exhibition follows Samuel Egerton’s journey to Venice where he was
apprenticed for 5 years to the influential art dealer and collector Joseph
Smith. It explores Samuel’s connections with leading artists and shows
Tatton’s two Canalettos, rare prints and letters, books, ceramics, glassware
and Rosalba Carriera’s portrait, revealing the family’s love of Italy. There is
also an immersive artwork.
The 18thC Mansion’s collection of over 14,000 items reflects the growing
wealth and status of the Egerton family from the end of the 18thC and
includes an outstanding collection of Gillow’s furniture and one of the
National Trust’s finest libraries.
The 50 acres of gardens are truly fantastic with a walled kitchen garden,
famous Japanese garden and historic glasshouse, all set within 1000 acres
of parkland.
The Mansion does not open until 12.30pm so I have booked a private, 1 hour
group tour “Treasured Collections” at 11.00 am.
The cost includes hot drinks on arrival, a private 1 hour tour of the mansion,
and lunch in a private room. You will have plenty of time in the afternoon to
re-visit the house and Canaletto exhibition, explore the gardens or relax
over another drink and perhaps a cake.
